In the Footsteps of Game of Thrones in Morocco

Day 1: apt menara – marrakech

Upon your arrival at Marrakech airport, your driver will be waiting for you at the last exit with a sign with your name on it. Afterwards, the transfer to your riad will take place.  Depending on your arrival time, you will visit the dynamic city of Marrakech, which is known as ‘the Pearl of the South’. In the Medina you will find countless food stalls, juice stores and handmade souvenirs, surrounded by countless aromas, colors and sounds.  You will stay centrally located at RIAD OMARA and will be served breakfast the next morning (B).

Day 2: marrakech-ait ben haddou-ouarzazate

Your driver will meet you at the Riad right after breakfast and you will start your journey south from Marrakech. Heading up into the High Atlas mountains you will take the Tizi N’Tichka Pass. This mountainous road provides excellent photo opportunities en-route. Ait Ben Haddou, one of UNESCO’s world heritage sites, is the city of Yunkai in Game of Thrones. It is a fortified village that used to command all the trade routes from the Sahara to the south, across the Atlas to the north. It has been very well preserved, and has been used as a backdrop for many film locations in recent years. Take some time to explore the Kasbah by foot, before continuing your journey to your riad. You will stay in the charming Riad Chamaa and receive dinner and breakfast (B, D).

Day 3: ouarzazate – ait ben haddou – marrakech

After breakfast but before your journey towards Marrakech you’ll visit the Movie studios of Ouarzazate and the Fint Oasis, also known as “the desert’s garden”. It has served as the film location for a number of Hollywood films/series, including Game of Thrones.  In the afternoon you’ll explore the magic city of Marrakech. You will meet your guide for a guided tour of Marrakech. You will discover the Bahia palace, Medersa Ben Youssef, and Majorelle garden, and many other hidden treasures. After the guided tour you will have some free time to see the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Djemaa el-Fna, one of the main attractions of Marrakech. You will stay in the traditional RIAD OMARA, with dinner and breakfast included (B, D).

Day 4: marrakech – essaouira

After breakfast, your driver will take you directly to Essaouira, an ancient port city formerly known as Mogador, which served as a trading post for centuries. Known as Astapor in Game of Thrones where the memorable scene took place in which Khaleesi pronounced “Dracarys” for the first time. Another unforgettable scene of the third season was filmed here: Khaleesi’s conquest of Astapor. The Mother of Dragons not only conquers the city, but also frees all the slaves and henceforth leads one of the largest armies in the world.Your guide will take you to visit the most frequently seen parts of Essaouira in Game of Thrones, such as the various city walls, towers and gates, which are parts of the Way of Punishment. You will stay at RIAD ZAHRA with dinner and breakfast included (D, B).

Day 5: essaouira-marrakech

After breakfast you can choose in which city you want to spend more time. Depending on your preference, you can spend the morning in Essaouira or head back to Marrakech immediately after breakfast. Both places are extremely versatile, so you can either stay in the coastal town with its incredible flair, or explore the vibrant city of Marrakech. In the evening, discover the charm of the medina by night at the famous Djemaa el-Fna, which takes on a completely new atmosphere

Day 6: airport marrakech

After the long Game of Thrones journey – which hopefully brought the scenes back to reality – the end is finally here. After check out your driver will pick you up from your Riad for the transfer into Marrakech airport.
